The Junior Software Engineer must be able to meet the key criteria below:

Location: Hybrid-Remote. Must be able to be onsite, as needed, for program execution in Suitland, MD. Once – Twice per month is the anticipated onsite requirement.

Years’ Experience: 3+ years professional experience

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field

Security Clearance: IBR is a federal contractor. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance issued by the U.S. Census Bureau. This agency handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.

NOTE: United States Citizenship is required as part of the eligibility criteria to be able to obtain this type of security clearance.

Work Schedules: IBR promotes work-life balance by offering flexible scheduling options. Standard business hours are aligned to the Eastern Time Zone.

Key Skills:

  • Development experience using the Java Spring Framework
  • Experience with Hibernate, Spring, or other similar frameworks preferred

Position Overview

As a Junior Software Engineer at IBR, you will play a key role in designing and implementing secure, next-generation solutions that support critical missions. As a member of our program supporting the U.S. Census Bureau, you will collaborate with technical leaders, business stakeholders, and a multi-disciplinary team to ensure solutions are scalable, secure and forward-thinking, while remaining aligned with organizational and program goals. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to technical strategy within a dynamic, mission-driven, and customer focused environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to full-stack development activities using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and relational database technologies as needed to support application features and enhancements.
  • Design and implement responsive, maintainable user interfaces using Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and related front-end technologies.
  • Develop and integrate application components, RESTful web services, APIs, data persistence, and external interfaces to support end-to-end application functionality.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot software functionality while translating system and business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Immediate responsibilities will include enhancing and maintaining the existing system as well as design, development, and documentation of new features
  • Support the Oracle-to-PostgreSQL cloud migration, including application updates, database integration, data persistence, testing, troubleshooting, and migration-related development activities.
  • Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment processes using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and related DevOps tools.
  • Participate in software testing activities, including additional testing and validation support during periods of increased testing demand or release activity.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain automated unit, integration, and functional tests and support automated test engineering using tools such as Playwright, Xray, and/or QMetry as needed.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application, integration, build, deployment, and environment issues across development and deployment environments.
  • Support AWS-based, containerized application infrastructure and collaborate with system administrators and other technical team members to ensure secure and reliable application builds and deployments.
  • Support application analytics and reporting capabilities, including integration with IBM Cognos Analytics and related enterprise reporting environments.
  • Ensure software development activities adhere to established architecture, programming, user-interface, configuration-management, federal security, and SDLC standards.
  • Maintain code, scripts, and configuration files in source control in accordance with agency and industry standards
  • Usage of Atlassian Tools for day-to-day tasks within the Scrum process
  • Develop new software functionality, modify existing functionality, and maintain and optimize the existing codebase
  • Will work directly with serve administrators to design and configure automated builds, tests, and deployments across environments using Jenkins and GitHub Actions

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering related field
  • 3+ years software development experience supporting enterprise applications
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
  • Experience developing, enhancing, troubleshooting and maintaining web-based enterprise applications through the full software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Must have development experience using the Java Spring Framework
  • Experience with Hibernate, Spring, or other similar frameworks preferred
  • Experience developing user interfaces using Angular, Javascript, HTML, and/or CSS
  • Experience with RESTful web services and/or microservices
  • Experience working with relational databases and SQL, including application/database integration
  • Experience supporting Oracle-to-PostrgeSQL database migration preferred
  • Experience in AWS cloud environments and AWS based application deployments
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions and/Jenkins.
  • Experience with Git based source control, including branching, merging, pull requests, and repository management.
  • Experience with containerization application environments and technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar technologies
  • Experience supporting secure software deployment and configuration management practices in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with IBM Cognos Analytics or other enterprise analytics/reporting platforms preferred.
  • Experience developing and executing automated unit, integration, and/or functional tests.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Xray, and/or QMetry preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to support software testing and validation activities during periods of increased testing or release demands.
  • Experience utilizing JIRA to manage assigned work and request approvals for changes and deployments
  • Must have strong attention to detail
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication

Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 USD annually.

 

This salary range represents the anticipated range for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
