The Senior Virtualization Administrator must be able to meet the key criteria below:

Location: Hybrid-Remote. The role will require travel, as needed to NCUA locations located in Alexandria & Sterling, VA; Phoenix & Tempe, AZ, and Austin, TX. Minimal travel is anticipated and otherwise role is able to be performed remotely.

Years’ Experience: 10+ years of professional experience leading virtualization administration

Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field or equivalent professional experience

Security Clearance: IBR is a federal contractor. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance issued by the National Credit Union Administration. This agency handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.

NOTE: United States Citizenship is required as part of the eligibility criteria to be able to obtain this type of security clearance.

  • Leading the management of VMware, Hyper-V, or similar technologies.

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate certification required

 

Position Overview

As a Senior Virtualization Administrator at IBR, you will play a key role in providing support in managing and maintaining the virtualized IT infrastructure overseeing deployment, configuration, and support of virtual environments ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability for the National Credit Union Administration program. The role will also include the oversight of the on-prem hardware infrastructure (e.g., servers and storage), the on-prem hypervisor environment (e.g., VMWare, vSphere), and Cloud infrastructure (CSP provider – MS Azure).

 

Responsibilities

  • Designing, building, implementing, and troubleshooting information systems hosted on VMware, AWS, and Azure.
  • Lead system upgrades, migrations, and continue to evolve the existing architecture
  • Lead the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual machines (VMs) and virtual infrastructure across on-prem and CSP provided data centers through VMware orchestration tools.
  • Configure core Azure Services such as Azure virtual machines and Azure functions.
  • Configure Azure networking such as Azure Virtual Networks Express circuits, Microsoft Edge and load balancers.
  • Manage and build Azure storage products including Blob, Azure disk storage, eSan, and NetApp.
  • Connect host or VM to network and storage components and configure
  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance of virtual environments, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex issues related to virtualization, including VM performance, connectivity, and security.
  • Implementing and managing advanced backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual environments.
  • Ensuring the security of virtual environments by applying patches, updates, and security configurations.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of virtualization configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Working closely with other IT teams to support virtualization needs and integrate virtual solutions with other systems.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to junior virtualization administrators and other IT staff.
  • Researching and reporting on new technologies and how they provide value to the organization.
  • Implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Virtualization administration with focus on leading VMware, Hyper-V, and other similar technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Will require travel, as needed to NCUA locations which may include the below for installing and maintaining physical equipment (i.g., network firewall, server, storage, uninterruptable power supplies. Minimal travel is anticipated, and majority of support will be remote.

  • Experience as a Virtualization Lead, leading system upgrades, migrations, and continue to evolve the existing architecture
  • Experience leading the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual machines (VMs) and virtual infrastructure across on-prem and CSP provided data centers.
  • Supporting virtualization infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with overseeing on-prem hardware infrastructure (e.g., servers and storage), the on-prem hypervisor environment (e.g., VMWare, vSphere), and CSP infrastructure hosted in Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience managing and building Azure storage products including Blob, Azure disk storage, eSan, and NetApp.
  • Experience overseeing the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual machines (VMs), virtual infrastructure, and physical infrastructure (including rack mounting and hardware configuration).
  • Experience monitoring the performance of virtual environments and optimizing resource allocation to ensure efficient operation.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving issues related to virtualization, including VM performance, connectivity, and security.
  • Experience with the automation of IT administration and server provisioning using tools such as:
    • Azure, Azure DevOps, Azure Automation, Azure CLI
    • PowerShell and VMWare PowerCLI
    • Terraform or similar IaC tools
  • Experience integrating infrastructure management tools with APIs to enable deployment of Infrastructure as Code integrated into CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate certification preferred
  • Customer service driven
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented

The expected salary range for this position is $135,000 – $165,000 USD annually. This is a good-faith estimate and not a salary guarantee as compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, education, skills, associated role responsibilities, applicable contractual requirements, and geographic location.
