Overview
 
The Monitoring Engineer Support will primarily be responsible for the overall monitoring, maintenance of the Network Operations Center. They are the first point of contact responsible for reactively monitoring customer data networks and providing fault isolation, and remote troubleshooting. The Monitoring Engineer is expected to provide monitoring, alerting, and reporting capabilities to the data center and ensure your physical and virtual server-based applications achieve peak performance. The Monitoring Engineer solutions needs to help develop strategy to discover the enterprise applications that reside in your data center and deliver the visibility you need into application performance and the underlying operating systems and servers they run on. 
 
The candidate is required to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.

The candidate is required to be onsite at the project facility in Greenbelt, MD during normal business hours.
 
Responsibilities
 
  1. provide overall monitoring to all physical and remote locations as part of the 2020 Census, including:
    1. Bowie Computer Center
    2. Regional Census Centers (RCC)
    3. Area Census Offices (ACO)
    4. Puerto Rico Census Area Office
    5. Other designated locations as necessary
  2. Monitor the responsiveness and availability of critical websites and web applications from the end-user perspective
  3. Monitor, alert and report on the health and performance of your data center applications and servers
  4. Monitor, alert and report on the health and performance of your data center applications and servers
  5. Track applications’ availability across your physical and virtual infrastructure with built-in alerting and instant notification of issues
  6. Gain deep visibility into the physical and virtual platforms that are hosting applications
  7. Simulate and measure Quality of Experience (QoE) for popular applications
  8. Monitor, alert, and report on the health and performance of all the physical and virtual servers in your data center
  9. Simplify data center consolidation by performing physical and virtual server consolidation
  10. Monitor, diagnose, and manage a host of different datacenter network technologies from Fibre Channel and Ethernet connectivity, to proprietary architectures such as Cisco’s Unified Computing System (UCS), to virtual switching and servers
  11. Monitor the health and performance of your data center’s physical and virtual network infrastructure
  12. Continually evolve the organization to support the needs of the corporation.
  13. Works site/device down issues and escalates to appropriate functional groups when needed.
  14. Escalate competitive or service related issues to inside sales team or management when appropriate.
  15. Communicates changes and outages to appropriate stakeholders.
  16. Ensures efficiency and conformity in operation through effective communication with all staff.
  17. Participates in Corporate continuous improvement initiatives to enhance client service, efficiency, and profitability.
  18. Participates in selected corporate meetings, conferences, conference calls, and planning.
  19. Lead selected corporate meetings, conferences, conference calls, and planning as required
  20. LAN/WAN experience is a plus
  21. One of the following technical certification are required:  CCNA, , Network +,  SCP Certification or any other Continuous Monitoring and Security Operations training
  22. 4 years’ experience with demonstrated technical proficiency in Infoblox DNS/DHCP, BIND, Microsoft DNS
  23. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista or Windows 7/8), Macintosh, Adobe Acrobat. PC hardware and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Qualifications
 
  1. Master’s degree or a Bachelors and 10 years of experience
  2. Proficient knowledge Experienced knowledge of LAN and WAN networks, TCPIP networking, DNS, DHCP and HTTP
  3. SolarWinds – Orion Network Performance Monitor
  4. A high level understanding of multi-tiered application traffic flow, server load balancing, global load balancing, and firewalls 
  5. Customer Service or call center experience
  6. Experience with ticketing tracking tool
  7. Familiarity with ITIL, industry standard network management tools, and common application traffic flow Understands AD structures, Global Policies (GPOs), User permissions​
  8. Extensive knowledge of Windows 7 — 10 and Server 2003 - 2012 R2
  9. Strong engineering skills in Windows server and desktop infrastructures
  10. Enterprise Management (SCCM, WSUS, Admin Studio)
  11. Exchange, SharePoint, Active Directory,
  12. Hardware, virtualization, and enterprise storage skills
  13. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  14. Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, schedule and execute assignments
  15. Strong analytical skills, with strong problem-solving capability
  16. Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  17. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  18. Ability to lead moderately complex initiatives and solutions
  19. Knowledge of cloud infrastructure environments such as Amazon AWS Processes.
  20. Experience identifying project milestones, phases, and elements; forming project teams; and establishing project budgets.
  21. Experience tracking project activity; resolving problems; publishing progress reports; recommending actions.
  22. Experience preparing technical reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
  23. Demonstrated professional and technical knowledge through participation at educational workshops; understanding of current professional publications; and evidence of established/robust personal networks
  24. The candidate is required to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance
