The Senior Microsoft Systems Administrator must be able to meet the key criteria below:
Location: Hybrid-Remote. Must be able to be onsite in Alexandria, VA as needed.
Years’ Experience: 7+ years of professional experience in Systems Administration
Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field or equivalent professional experience
Security Clearance: IBR is a federal contractor. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance issued by the National Credit Union Administration. This agency handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.
NOTE: United States Citizenship is required as part of the eligibility criteria to be able to obtain this type of security clearance.

- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex system issues.
- Architect and design enterprise‑grade Windows infrastructure solutions, ensuring alignment with industry best practices, security standards, and organizational requirements.
- Lead and mentor a team of system administrators, providing technical direction, prioritizing workloads, and driving operational excellence across Windows server environments.
- Partner closely with clients to assess business needs, design scalable Windows‑based architectures, and collaboratively implement solutions that enhance performance, reliability, and security.
- Oversee end‑to‑end implementation activities—including planning, configuration, migration, and optimization—while ensuring compliance, documentation quality, and seamless integration with existing systems.
- Recommend and enforce best‑practice frameworks for Active Directory, Group Policy, virtualization, patch management, and disaster recovery to maintain a robust and resilient infrastructure
- Azure DevSecOps experience is desirable.
- Preferred certifications may include Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Network+, or VMware Certified Professional
Position Overview
As a Senior Microsoft Systems Administrator at IBR, you will play a key role in providing support in maintaining and managing the Microsoft-based IT infrastructure for the National Credit Union Administration program. The role will provide support to all systems ensuring security, reliability, and efficiency in operation. The Senior Systems Administrator will oversee the deployment, configuration, and support of Microsoft technologies such as Windows Servers, applications and associated technologies such as Azure, Active Directory, Intune, Exchange, Office 365, SharePoint, and Teams.
As a Senior Systems Administrator you will collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to support various OCIO specific projects and initiatives, providing technical expertise to ensure Microsoft technologies are effectively integrated into the agency's overall IT strategy.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex system issues.
- Manage and maintain the Microsoft-based infrastructure including servers, networks, and applications.
- Ensures the Microsoft infrastructure is scalable, secure, stable, and efficient operation of systems by performing regular updates, backups, and troubleshooting tasks.
- Oversee the deployment, configuration and support of IT systems to ensure optimal performance and security using vSphere, Cloud Service Providers, appliances, etc.
- Manage and maintain Microsoft-based IT infrastructure, including Windows Server, Windows 11, Entra ID, Active Directory, Intune, Exchange, Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, and Azure.
- Manage software deployment and updates through tools like SCCM and Intune.
- Providing technical expertise and ensuring servers, endpoints, and Microsoft services are effectively integrated into NCUA’s overall IT strategy.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure system integrity and security.
- Monitor system performance and address issues that arise.
- Implement and maintain monitoring systems for proactive and reactive support.
- Manage Microsoft servers and Azure Cloud Services across multiple availability zones and physical locations.
- Create and maintain code-based automation to build, configure, and manage IT infrastructure (servers, networks, cloud)
- Lead Infrastructure as Code (Iac) utilizing Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation or similar technologies.
- Performing regular updates, backups, and troubleshooting to ensure systems run smoothly, securely, and availability.
- Participate in security and compliance assessments audits.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure system resilience.
- Manage and maintain M365 Conditional Access Policies.
- Implement and manage security policies to meet NCUA baselines, executive directives, and security requirements.
- Deliver unified role-based access across NCUA’s IT services.
- Develop and implement IT policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations and procedures.
- Continuously research and evaluate new technologies and trends to recommend improvements and innovations.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to support various projects and initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior staff, helping to develop their skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
- 7+ years of professional experience in Systems Administration.
- 3+ years of experience leading IT systems administration, including experience leading or overseeing system infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field or equivalent professional experience.
- A hybrid-remote role and must be able to support onsite work at the Alexandria, VA location as needed. May need to travel to NCUA locations which may include the below for installing and maintaining physical equipment (i.g., network firewall, server, storage, uninterruptable power supplies).

- Must have experience managing a Microsoft-based infrastructure by overseeing the deployment, migration, configuration, and support of Microsoft technologies such as Windows Server, Entra ID, Active Directory, Intune, Exchange Online, Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, and Azure.
- Windows Task Manager expertise (Cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience providing end user system support
- Experience managing and troubleshooting VMware vSphere environments.
- Experience with overseeing on-prem hardware infrastructure (e.g., servers and storage), the on-prem hypervisor environment (e.g., VMWare, vSphere), and CSP infrastructure hosted in Microsoft Azure.
- Experience monitoring the performance of virtual environments and optimizing resource allocation to ensure efficient operation.
- Experience managing software deployment and updates through tools like SCCM and Intune.
- Experience monitoring Microsoft system performance and addressing issues
- Experience performing regular updates, backups, and troubleshooting to ensure systems run smoothly and securely.
- Must have experience with data center and cloud-based (Azure) deployments.
- Azure DevSecOps experience required. Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform for diagnosing and resolving complex system and network issues.
- Scripting and automation tools experience (JavaScript, Bash, PowerShell, or Perl)
- Experience with automated server builds
- Preferred certifications may include Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Network+, or VMware Certified Professional
- Customer service driven.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be detail oriented.

The expected salary range for this position is $130,000 – $150,000 USD annually. This is a good-faith estimate and not a salary guarantee as compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, education, skills, associated role responsibilities, applicable contractual requirements, and geographic location.
